Prospex Works

Prospex Works aims to support and encourage Young People who are not in any form of education or employment, to gain the confidence to better themselves by developing the necessary skills and experience to find the direction and career they want to follow.

The majority of the young people we work with have few or no qualifications so this is a vital stage in giving them a true taste of work and showing them that they have something to offer.

There are three streams to this project; the Placement Scheme, Prospex Works Lifeskills and Job Club.

The Placement schemes are 4-6 week paid work experience places for young people who are 16+ and have left school. The placements give them a wide range of experiences within the working environment and placements vary from administration roles, comme chefs, scaffolding to floristry. The young people work a full week under the employer’s normal working conditions learning on the job. At the end of the placement the young person has an exit interview and is then supported in finding full time work or training.

You can help by:

Lifeskills is a new initiative and will be an intensive, fast-track syllabus which revives the tradition of a technical Apprenticeship.

This is not an informal education but a skilled foundation course.

The principal aim is to instil a sense of self-worth with emotional discipline for effective problem-solving. The longer term aim will be the study for a formal qualification to increase our students’ opportunities for employment.

The course covers:

  • Induction : Overview and course requirements
  • Tuition : Course Modules
  • Qualifications :

Over a rolling eight week period, candidates will gain building Industry skills and procedures backed up by realistic work experiences to ground their learning.

You can help by:

Job club is a weekly session where young people can get help writing a CV, search for jobs or training, gain advice on interview techniques and get encouragement. Appointments are made by speaking to a Prospex worker, phoning or just dropping into the Jean Stokes Community Centre. The sessions are on an individual basis with one of our trained volunteers who are friendly and approachable.

Job Club currently runs on Fridays between 12 and 3pm weekly.
