THE
STUDIO
A creative space at the Underground where young people learn to DJ, produce, record and podcast, and find somewhere to focus and belong.

More than a recording studio
The Prospex music studio is a creative space where young people can explore music, express themselves and build confidence. Through DJing, production and recording, they learn new skills in a safe and supportive place.
For many young people the studio becomes a place of focus, collaboration and belonging, and somewhere their ideas, stories and creativity have an outlet. Sessions run during term time and in the holidays, led by our Studio Manager, DJ Dymond.
Young people also make our Prospex podcast, and through our partnership with the Ronnie Scott’s Foundation some have performed on stage at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.

Make, record, perform
DJing and production
Learn to mix on decks, make beats and produce tracks in Logic Pro, from sample-based music to completely original sounds.
Play and record
Guitar, bass, piano, drums and more. One young person who developed on bass, piano and drums now plans to take music at GCSE.
Peer-led sessions
Young people bring friends in and lead sessions themselves. One group wrote an original track together that became their school talent show entry.
A place to let it out
Young people tell us the studio builds confidence, creativity and technical skills, and helps them manage their emotions when life gets hard.
“Ever since I started using the studio, I am able to turn my thoughts into music. It is a space I use to release my energy and talk about things as well.”
