Prospex Press Release
Prospex, the youth charity based on the Caledonian Road, has just announced the departure of its founder and youth worker Matt Calvert. Matt had been with Prospex since it was set up in 2001 and has been instrumental in its development. From small beginnings when it was based with just Matt in the tower of St Andrew’s Church, Thornhill Square, Matt oversaw Prospex expansion to three permanent workers in addition to himself and its own premises on the Caledonian Road opposite the Bemerton Estate where much of its work is carried out. Matt states that he has had a “huge amount of pleasure in building and leading Prospex over the last 8 years, but it is time to hand over the reins and move on to new challenges and continue to live the dream in other ways.”From Matt’s departure on 16th June, Prospex will be led by Richard Frankland (known as ‘Beef’), who has been working for Prospex for a number of years.
In an area of social deprivation Prospex aim is to develop with young people, aged 11-21, long term, one to one, stable relationships in order to increase their self esteem and help them to reach their full potential in life. It has four main work streams: “Prospex Detached”-providing initial contact with young people; “Prospex Works”- building skills and employment opportunities; “Prospex Life”- concentrating on team and personal development; and “Prospex Families”- building parenting skills and positive family relationships. It has also set up “Prospex Xtra” to cover its community projects, healthy eating programme, football etc.
