Tools for the Job
This month Prospex has sponsored a young lad by buying him tools he needed to do his 6 months plumbing course. This came about after he approached us for help and displayed great initiative and determination to make this course happen. The tools were purchased from a local business, Caledonian Paint UK Ltd, who gave us good discount and have promised to give us some paint for the new premises when we need it. Your regular giving and donations make this possible.
Prospex works has its first young person on a work experience placement. Having completed a week in our office with Marsha, she is now on a six week placement with ISCL Accord gaining loads of skills that will benefit her in the future.
Thanks to funding received from Magpie, Youth Offending Prevention, we are embarking on some dedicated work on the Boston and Nailour Estate. This will include an eight week arts project, an eight week music project where they will write and produce a CD, and organised off site trips out. We believe this will make a significant difference to the estate and once the results are shown, this will help us secure further funding to enable us to continue our work here.
Prospex works has another community hall to redecorate. It starts on the 8th of May and it is a bigger job than Cally Hall. We will need seven young people and are going to use the young people from the first hall, as they worked so well. It gives us an opportunity to build stronger relationships with them and build new relationships with the new young people we employ.
We are looking for 50 women to sign up for the Hydro Active 5K run in Hyde park on 3rd September 06.
I know it seems a long way off but places fill fast. So far we have 4 so only another 46 to go! To book costs £15. Five pounds of this goes to their charity and the rest covers their costs. You get a goody bag on completion including a T shirt and participants medal. We will also provide you with a stunning Prospex T Shirt which is a good enough reason to run.
If you can sign up on the web site at www.womenschallenge.co.uk and let us know, we can send you a sponsor form and give details of where we are meeting, before and after.
As part of our partnership work over Easter we were involved in organising and taking part in a paint balling trip with Barnard Adventure Play and two local Community support officers hence the joint name ProBarnard.
The trip took 40 young people from the local area for a days activity. At the start of the day we challenged them to prove that what the press writes about young people isn’t all true. They rose to the challenge and we were extremely proud of them all. Everyone came home tired and closer from the experience. The trip has built some strong friendships and will really benefit us in our detached work. We will now continue this partnership with our detached work in the area.
Prospex is holding a race-night organised by local parents to raise funds for us. This will take place on Friday 26th May 2006 At Nailour Hall, Blundell Street. It will also include a buffet, raffle and disco. This will be a fun night!
The race-night is provided by racenight.me.uk.
