February 07
House of Commons
Matt, Max and Beef joined a Christmas party at the House of Commons along with three hundred others from the Borough. Its purpose was to thank everyone there for their contribution to the community. It was a good evening and real chance for networking with others in the area.
Life Prospex
The first Life Prospex personal development course of 2007 is about to start on 19th February. The 4 week course will take six young people for two sessions a week and a weeks residential in Wales as the conclusion. It will cover boundaries, consequences, self esteem and confidence. It will challenge behaviour, attitudes and be life changing for those who take part.
The Centre.
This is coming into its own now: Connections are now based in the building every Monday afternoon which is a great development that will benefit both parties and the young people we work with. Jossette is running a literacy programme for us on Wednesdays working one to one with young people. This is a vital need in the work that we do as many young people struggle in this area. Fresh Start are using the building Thursday mornings helping young people with GCSE’s We have also just finished a series of Beat-boxing workshops where youngsters learnt the skills needed for this talent over several weeks, led by the formidable Tom Calvert (no relation to Matt). Those who completed the course received a certificate of level 1 in beat-boxing. It was a massive success and one that is sure to be repeated. Finally make sure you check out the photos of how the property has been transformed. The only things left are some interior furnishings and the outside signage which has at last been given the go ahead.
Prospex Works
Prospex Works work placements are developing well with ISCL now taking two young people at a time for which we are really grateful. There are other placements on the go as well and this is proving a really successful part of the project. If you feel you could offer a work placement for young people get in touch with Max. This can make a huge impact on a young persons life.
Detached
We have received funding from the Mary Kinross Trust that will enable us to fund two part time workers for detached for three years, this will hopefully happen in the near future. Detached is often our first point of contact with those we work with and is an essential part of the work Prospex does. We are very grateful to the Mary Kinross Trust for making this possible.
Staffing:
After working with us for two years Beef Frankland has moved on to new things. He will however still be involved in various projects from time to time and will be making sure the web site is regularly updated from now on.
Boston Club.
The Boston Club for younger teens is going well with a regular team building and good attendance. There are plans to take this group away for a weekend in the not to distant future, this will be a new experience for many.
One to One.
As well as these the one to one support of young people in all aspects of their lives continues from advocacy work, to helping with benefits, housing or many other needs.
Thanks
Our work is reliant on the support you give so we just want to ensure you that you are appreciated and valued. We could not do it with out you!
