Life Prospex
The first course of 2007 has now finished and was a huge success. The course was over four weeks and included a visit to London Zoo to help look at boundaries, a treasure hunt around London , a team building day on a farm and a week away in Wales. Highlights of the course included standing on top of Triiffon 3000 feet up. The sense of achievement in putting a chest of draws together and someone wanting it for home. There has been positive feedback from parents about changed attitudes, one of he participants who has not been going to school went back and got a GCSE.
Prospex Works
The success of the placements at ICSL, the pilot for work experience through Prospex means we are now ready to take this to other companies to try and get them on board. Maxine plans to have five new placements in the next three months, and now has a promotional pack to help do this.
Detached
This work continues and we are looking at increasing the presence of our workers as summer approaches.
Parental Support
Much of this is done through our other programmes such as Life Prospex and following its success we are exploring the possibilities of a parents version. Many parents have expressed an interest in this and it could have a huge impact on our work as always funding is crucial.
In the Property
A two week course called Listen Up has just finished at the centre with positive effect. The purpose of the course was to build relationships with the police and young people.
Also a four week Beat Box project run by Tom Calvert has just finished with five young people from St Andrews Primary School, learning the skills for this art. This was a pilot scheme with the school and we hope it will become a rolling programme that other schools will also take up. On completing the course the young people received a certificate in level 1 Beat Boxing.
Staffing
We are looking for a centre manager to run the property, look after the administration and funding so watch this space.
Boston and Nailour
Following the success of our work here last year tackling anti social behaviour we are pleased to have received further funding from Islington Magpie to continue this work.
Other News
Local resident Fiona Mallin has offered to help us with fundraising and administration to which we are very grateful.
The official opening of the property will be taking place on the 11th of June which will be a great occasion and attended by both our Patrons.
Plans are underway at the moment for an award ceremony which will highlight ten achievements of young people we work with.
Links are currently being formed with The Royal Bank of Scotland and we are looking forward to developing these relationships.
