The BallOn the 3rd March Dawsons Solicitors orgainised a fund raising ball on behalf of Prospex at The Savoy Hotel. The evening was a great success raising over £25,000 to enable us to carry on the great work that we do. We had the pleasure of having one of our Patrons; Tanya Byron and her husband Bruce attend, as well as Samantha Richards and her husband Nigel. Matt enjoyed hosting Neil Morrissey and Scott Maslin with their partners. It was an amazing evening with Prospex staff and guests looking extremely glamorous in their eveningwear. It was fantastic to see so many people (300+) supporting Prospex and enjoying the meal, auction and dancing
A huge thank you goes to Dawson’s who made this happen, for those who attended and to the Savoy Hotel.
“Prospex works” ran another painting project, this time decorating a local community centre know as ‘the hut’ took a week with a team of 3 young people who worked really hard to complete the work. After this centre we have a further 4 to do. We are very thankful to Homes For Islington for sponsoring these projects and we look forward to developing our relationship in the future. The project was completed a day early and to a very high standard. Well done to all involved.
We have just embarked on a ten week partnership with Barnard Park Adventure Play to carry out detached work in and around the park on Thursday and Friday nights.
This will be a time to build new relationships, maintain existing ones and assess a way forward with the young people that congregate there. We are hoping this will lead to further funding to do some focused work in the future.
We have worked with Barnard very successfully before so are pleased to have this opportunity again.
The Property is progressing well, although it looks worse than when we started due to stripping it out including removing the ceilings (a very messy job as you can see from the photos).
We have cleared out 3 lorry loads of rubbish and will definitely need a forth. A massive thank you ICSL (Islington Council) who have been clearing this for us free of charge and to Lee Henry one of our young people who has been there grafting voluntarily whenever we have asked.
Many more young people will be involved as the project develops, for more information look at the youth centre page.
We came in contact with Peter through a colleague working for another organisation who was concerned about him. He was not engaging with school and had been excluded. Not being happy with this and having great self motivation he looked into an IT course and asked if we could support him. On meeting him we were very impressed with his motivation and level of maturity and agreed to help him. Him and his mother now regularly meet a Prospex key worker to track their progress and to provide regular support. We are also financially supporting him.
As I write, he is taking his first seven exams and is looking forward to the next stage.
