Prospex Works

Prospex Works aims to support and encourage Young People who are not in any form of education or employment, to gain the confidence to better themselves by developing the necessary skills and experience to find the direction and career they want to follow.

The majority of the young people we work with have few or no qualifications so this is a vital stage in giving them a true taste of work and showing them that they have something to offer.

There are three streams to this project; the Placement Scheme, Prospex Works Lifeskills and Job Club.

Over the summer we have been involved in the second phase of the community garden project that we wrote about in our April / May Newsletter. This phase has involved two young people and Simon, a volunteer from Kent, starting to build the planters from around a hundred railway sleepers – very physical but rewarding work. This project progresses as and when we receive donations for the work; so hopefully there will be more funding soon.

Work Placements:

The money for our work placement scheme is about to run out with another young person entering the Crown Plaza as a commis chef. We have been actively seeking funding for this but haven't been successful yet. The placements are a crucial part of our work as this is often the first stage to young people finding full time employment as well as building their confidence and self-esteem.

Each placement involving a 6 week work experience in one of a number of workplaces costs £450. Can you help to support a young person?
